How to set up a private Telegram AI assistant
A practical guide to using Telegram as a familiar, controlled channel for a personal AI agent.
5 min read
Telegram is a convenient first channel because the conversation is familiar and the agent can be tested from a phone or computer. Privacy depends on the bot identity, access rules and permissions around the connected tools.
Choose the role first
Decide whether the agent is for planning, reminders, research, customer enquiries or another defined job. A narrow role is easier to test and improve.
Restrict the conversation
- Use a dedicated bot for the agent.
- Allow only the intended Telegram user or team members.
- Keep a clear list of connected accounts and tools.
- Require approval before sending or changing anything important.
Start with one useful task
Ask the agent to complete one repeatable workflow and test ordinary requests, missing information, corrections and stop conditions. Expand only after those cases behave reliably.
